Welcome to Shakti!
I realize that being new can be daunting. Our team aims to do what they can to make you feel comfortable and ready to start your mat practice with us.
Here at Shakti, there is nothing to get right and nothing you need to already know. Your time on your mat is for inward discovery rather than outward improvement.
Shakti translates from Sanskrit (ancient Indian) to creative force toward consciousness. We hold space for people to simply tap their creative energy. Guidance will be given on alignment however; the primary focus is on the breath, for it is the breath itself that creates awareness.
I suggest starting your inward journey with Gentle Flow or Slow Flow. It will give you an introduction to the unique coupling of breath and motion that we are known for here. If you desire more you can join Shakti Flow.
All sessions promote internal balance, mental clarity and physical restoration.
Parking is located in our back lot at the rear of the building or across the street in the M&T lot. We suggest that upon your first arrival, you enter from the front of the building so someone can greet you and orientate you to our space and practice. Please remove your shoes and turn cell phones off. All personal belonging can be cleared to the sides of our practice room, leaving you with no distractions while you are on your mat. Mats and all others props are available to you. We suggest that once you have a regular practice, you have your own mat. One can be purchased here. Wear comfortable clothes that you can breathe in and please bring a water bottle to cut down on waste. Please avoid wearing heavy fragrance when coming to practice here. Many of our students are chemically sensitive.
We aspire to move from the “me” to the “we” when entering the building. If arriving late, it really is no problem, simply be sensitive to those trying to quiet their minds in class. The yoga practice is an on going process. I hope that your yoga comes homes with you, that you share it with others and bring it back with you when you return.
Peace
